Members of the Regional Council will appeal to the Cabinet about the crossing points on the border with EU

Given the repeated requests of the public in the region, the Regional Council has decided to appeal to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yatsenyuk AP asking to re-consider the allocation of the necessary funds from the state budget to continue construction of the bypass road in the city of Beregovo and the village of Astey to the international automobile checkpoint "Luzhanka."

"Deputies of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, – the document states – in recent years have repeatedly raised issues about the need for funding and further construction of the bypass road around the city of Beregovo, located near the border of Ukraine with the EU. The bypass road will allow to increase the transit flow of cargo, promote the further development of the regional economy and provide optimal transport links between Europe and Ukraine.

The construction of this road started in 2008, the cost of the project then amounted to UAH 149 million. However, to date, works on this site have been only partly completed. Meanwhile, Hungary is actively implementing large-scale project on the development of transport links to the border with Ukraine and the corresponding border infrastructure.

Unfortunately, due to delays in implementation of these infrastructure projects on the part of Ukraine, the design estimates require constant adjustment towards the rise in the cost, and the financing from European funds has been suspended. Preliminary, according to the revised project estimates, 4 starting complexes are provided at the facility. The total length of the road was reduced from 14.8 km to 13.7 km. The cost of construction works amounted to approximately 510.0 million hryvnia."

Therefore, the Regional Council deputies repeatedly ask to consider the allocation of the necessary funds from the state budget to continue construction of the bypass road in the city of Beregovo and the village of Astey to the international automobile checkpoint "Luzhanka" and to speed up the implementation of the projects for construction and reconstruction of checkpoints on the state border of Ukraine with the EU at the expense of international technical assistance.
