The second monitoring visit to Turya-Remeta neuropsychiatric center revealed that problem issues in the institution remain.

Employees of the Department for implementation of the national preventive mechanism of the Secretariat of the Ombudsman together with members of the public made the second monitoring visit to Turya-Remeta neuropsychiatric center of Transcarpathian region, where more than 320 people with mental disorders live. This is stated in the information available on the site of the Ombudsman on Facebook.

The monitors noted that after the first visit the bars on the windows and doors of observation rooms had been dismantled. The patients, who lived and worked on the farm, have been transferred to the center.

At the same time, they stated that the problem issues in the institution remain.

In particular, patients can wash only once every two weeks. Bathrooms are not repaired and not equipped with partitions between the funnels; interior doors in residential buildings are broken; plumbing equipment is not repaired; living conditions do not meet the rules of sanitation and hygiene.

The problem of provision with furniture, especially bedside tables, cabinets and chairs, has not been solved.

These and other identified problems and shortcomings were described in the reports of the Ombudsman, which will be sent to the management of the Prosecutor General Office of Ukraine, the Ministry of Social Policy and the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.
