Let’s say NO to billboards in the city center of Uzhgorod!

Uzhgorod active users of social networks have launched the Internet campaign ‘We stand for a good shot’. It deals with the impossibility of taking pictures of historic buildings in the center of Uzhgorod. They are covered by the numerous billboards. According to many residents of the city – it is unacceptable, because Uzhgorod is losing its historical charm.

‘The internet campaign will be supported by the letter to the city mayor, under which the activists of the event ask to put sign of all those concerned photographers who are tired of sketch billboards in the Photoshop. The matter concerns of 15 billboards’ dismantling from the walls at the pedestrian bridge’. – writes a member of the public council in the management of Architecture and Urban Construction Victoriia Ryzhova on her page on Facebook.

The content of the letter is the following:

Dear Viktor Volodymyrovych!

The photographers of Uzhgorod urge you with the request to express the will and not in words but in concrete actions to demonstrate that you truly respect our ancient town. Because of outdoor advertising dominance it became impossible to take qualitatively pictures of pedestrian bridge, the view at the Petefi Square or make panoramic photos of the Teatralna Square. Every year on the day of the town all the officials mention that they like Uzhgorod, that it is a major tourist heart of Transcarpathia and talk about its unique architectural environment. However, in reality, the representatives of local authorities often turn a blind eye at obvious problems.

On behalf of the city photographers’ community we ask you to remove all billboards (15 pieces) that are hung at the stone walls on both sides of the pedestrian bridge and documentary ban their future deployment. This decision will show that you are the mayor, who puts the interests of the city, its attractiveness for tourists and residents’ comfort higher than the petty interests of a few commercial businesses.
