Uzhgorod sculptor Mykhailo Kolodko is finishing the work on a new present for Uzhgorod: the diptych "Crown and Napoleon".
These two mini-sculptures will remind about the events that became a very interesting episode in the history of Transcarpathia. In 1805, Napoleon Bonaparte’s troops, during the Austrian campaign, occupied Vienna and defeated in Moravia the Third Coalition Army, which consisted of Austria, Russia, the United Kingdom, Sweden and the Neapolitan Principality.
The Austrians decided to save the unique and legendary Saint Istvan crown from the "Corsican monster" at any cost. It was secretly taken to our region and hidden in the Mukachevo castle. Since Bonaparte was hunting for this relic, the routes were strictly classified, and according to some reports, it was taken to Mukachevo through the territory of present-day Slovakia, Uzhgorod and Serednye.
Mykhailo Kolodko could not ignore this interesting story, which made the Transcarpathian cities involved in the major European policy. So, soon, a diptych will be set up in Uzhgorod: the saved crown and gloomy Napoleon in the eternal pursuit of the desired relic.
We will provide more detailed information closer to the opening of the sculptures.
