The second festival of medieval art took place in the Romanian city Sighetu Marmatiei. A small city that lies on the banks of the Tisza river, at the border with Ukraine, is not distinguished by special tourist sights. Realizing that the provincial location and lack of bright legends can lead to prolonged stagnation, young and energetic mayor Ovidiu Nemesh decided to organize a real festival.
The idea of how to do that was found very quickly. Historians have shown that the area on which the city lies was called Eternal Maramures and all the typical Middle Ages events took place here.
For the second year in early autumn guests from all over Romania come to Sighetu Marmatiei. Medieval tournaments, archers performances, music and costumed balls are the required attributes of the festival.
At the festival, entitled "Eternal Maramures" one could hear Italian, German, English, Ukrainian, and of course – Romanian languages, because the purpose of the event is to prove: the land that has medieval traditions strives to continue them in the present.
