Journalists will learn how to work in dangerous environment at the training in Uzhgorod (PROGRAM)

Such training will be conducted in Transcarpathian region for the first time. There, media workers will not only learn about professional work safety in theory, but also will try themselves in practical training. For the first time, they will be told about the art of survival in wartime so specifically and extensively. They will not only listen and watch thematic video, but also will… try themselves as living targets. 

The training is arranged by the Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine in the framework of the activities of the Joint Center for Journalist Assistance (with the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine).

Journalists, photograhers, TV cameramen  of Transcarpathian region are invited.

The one-day training on security of journalism in high-risk environment will be held on September 19, 2014 (Friday)!

Topics to be discussed during the training:

– How to plan work in areas of high risk;

– How to work during the coverage of events, protests and conflicts without risk to life and health;

– How to avoid becoming a hostage;

– How not to lose professional equipment and save valuable videos and photographs.

Coaches of the IMTUU having experience in extreme conditions and trained by security professionals in the International Federation of Journalists will give practical tips on how to work in the crowd, in areas of armed conflict, protection from different weapons, cooperation with law enforcement.

These and other issues, as well as "homework", brought by journalists, will be considered during the scheduled hours – from 9.30 to 18.30.

Practical classes will be held outdoors (which one also should be prepared for).

Free participation in the training allows all those, who will work in areas of high risk, to obtain the knowledge and practical skills.

All participants are provided with food, handout materials. Those, who will come from outside the regional center, will be reimbursed transport costs (upon the presentation of the ticket). Estimated number of participants is 20.

The Joint Center for Journalist Assistance is supported by the International Federation of Journalists, the Association of Polish Journalists and other partner organizations.
