Inventory of open manholes in Uzhgorod: activists found 522! Lists have been sent to the City Council (PHOTOS, DOCUMENTS)

According to official information, 522 manhole covers and storm grates are missing in Uzhgorod. Most of missing manhole covers are on the balance sheets of utilities. These figures are in the response to the request for information, which came from Uzhgorod City Council to Uzhgorod activists Ferenc Baki, Yaroslav Kozich, Oleksandr Peresolyak, Bogdan Moldavchuk, a representative of the Council of Motorists Oleksandr Brodi.

As you know, at a recent meeting of the Executive Committee of Uzhgorod City Council, the Mayor Victor Pogorelov gave specific and clear instructions: all open manholes in the city must be covered by October 25. 

Then, at the next meeting of the executive committee, the mayor at the request of utilities extended the time for closing of open manholes by 20 days. 

Recall that in Uzhgorod, the prosecutor’s office is dealing with trap manholes, and the mayor promised that public utilities will bear personal responsibility if they fail to cover all manholes.

The city activists decided to find out the progress in solving the outlined problem – November 5, they received the official response from Uzhgorod City Council. According to official documents, currently 522 manhole covers and sewage grates are missing in the city.      

In order to personally identify potential hazards, the activists independently made a partial examination of Dostoevsky, Hodynka Kapushanska, Zankovetska, Hrushevsky, 8 Bereznya, General Svoboda Mynaiska streets, Svoboda ave., B. Khmelnytsky, Mytrak, Dobrolyubov, Mytna, Babyak, Zahorska, Sobranetska, Koshitska, Universyteska, Bercheni, Drugety, Pidhirna, Pidhradska, Elektrozavodska streets. In total, the review covered about 10% of the city streets, where activists found 106 missing covers and grates. 

According to the results of the review, the activists drew up reportes, sent to the Executive Committee, the Department of Municipal Economy, the Traffic Police of Uzhgorod requests to eliminate the violations. The relevant information was also sent to the prosecution of Uzhgorod.
