The detainee demanded from the defendants’ relatives four thousand dollars of illegal benefit for mitigating the punishment for assault on police officers. The lawyer was detained in the courtroom while receiving a portion of the agreed amount.
During the investigative and operational activities, officer of the Economic Crime Department in Transcarpathian region found out that the defendants’ lawyer in return for four thousand dollars promised to secure lenient sentence.
Thus, at the end of last year, the defendants attacked police officers and injured them. A criminal proceeding was opened under Part 2 of Article 345 (threat or violence against a law enforcement officer) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and subsequently they were notified of being suspected, and the case was referred to the court for consideration on the merits.
The sanction of the article provides for the punishment by imprisonment for a term of up to five years. In return for four thousand dollars, he promised to influence the judge. Namely, to secure probation instead of imprisonment.Operatives of the Economic Crime Department in Transcarpathian region together with the Prosecutor’s Office of Transcarpathian region detained the lawyer in the courtroom.
Two thousand US dollars, which the detainee had received as an illegal benefit, was seized from the scene as evidence.
The lawyer was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine.
