In Uzhgorod, the most urgent environmental problems in Transcarpathia were discussed over a round table (PHOTOS)

On Monday, April 15, a round table was held in the premises of Uzhgorod regional council, where the most urgent environmental problems in Transcarpathia were discussed. The meeting was attended by students of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection of UzhNU, representatives of the Ecology Department of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, the Tisa River Basin Water Resources Administration and the Association of Local Self-Governance "Transcarpathia for Clean Environment". MP of Ukraine Robert Horvat also participated in the discussion.

 The participants of the round table focused on three main themes – the problem of dry vegetation burning, solid household waste management and drinking water quality issues in Uzhgorod. The students of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection of UzhNU spoke about these problems during their presentations. In addition, issues of legislative initiatives aimed at improving environmental policy in Ukraine were addressed.

 In particular, the draft of the Framework Law "On Waste Management" developed by the Ministry for Environmental Protection with the participation of international experts (Germany, Bulgaria, Slovakia) was the subject of discussion.

During the meeting, a memorandum was signed between the Regional Association of Local Self-Governance "Transcarpathia – For Clean Environment" and the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection of Uzhgorod for combining efforts in training of qualified specialists in the field of environmental protection. The parties to the memorandum consider it necessary to prepare an agreement on cooperation, which will allow to focus efforts to promote better training of specialists, teaching them practical skills, getting students involved in public and educational work.
