Songs, that are 100 to 200 years old, and no less authentic dances, as well as children’s games and traditional Easter fun. This is what the holiday in Uzhgorod castle – the first of kind – was like.
The holiday "Ancient songs in Uzhgorod castle" was organized by the Transcarpathian Folk Choir together with the staff of the Local Lore Museum, who prepared a really unique program.
They searched the depths of the musical history of the region and revived the songs of writers and compilers Ioann Bokshay, Yevhen Fentsyk, Vasyl Talapkovych, Oleksandr Kizyma and others. There were many premieres, as many pieces from archival collections, including the museum’s collection of notes, have not been performed since one hundred or more years ago.
The soloists and the choir sang true gems of Transcarpathian folk songs, and the choreographic group showed authentic dances and Easter fun and play. The holiday was opened by kids, who took part in ancient Easter games, that were popular more than a century ago. Valuable folk costumes from the museum funds were another holiday decoration.
The best voices of Transcarpathia, secular and spiritual, humorous and lyrical, inflammatory and touching songs and dances and Transcarpathian folklore – this is what the audience could see at the event. The program of the Transcarpathian Folk Choir deserves to represent our Transcarpathia – interesting, colorful, creative and unique – in Ukraine and abroad.
