In Uzhgorod, a palace is crumbling (Photofacts)

This is the current pathetic appearance of the unique building, located next to the pedestrian bridge on the left when going from Teatralna Square towards Petofi Square in Uzhgorod. According to the well-known historian and archaeologist Yosyp Kobal, it is a two-story corner palace. It completes an impressive architectural ensemble in Art Nouveau style, which stretches from Petofi Square to Nezalezhnist embankment On the ground floor, there is now a bank, on the first floor – appartments.

On the left bank of the Uzh, near the pedestrian bridge, there is still the quarter, which is closely tied through its architectural and artistic attractions, and of course, history with the old right-bank part of the city. This is the so-called New Town – now Petofi Square and its surroundings. The first written mention of the New Town dates back to 1631, the historian says. The house of Sandor Molnar, which was situated in that part of the town, is mentioned in the city census. There are also mentions of the inn around which the formation of the left-bank part of Uzhgorod actually started.

But now we can see that old balconies and original moldings are crumbling. And ground floors of these buildings have long lost their original appearance and become gray-brown-crimson with modern signs on stores. Too bad that nobody cares about it. We do not appreciate what we have!
