In Tyachiv, the monument to the heroes of the Heaven’s Hundred was unveiled (PHOTOS)

December 1, 2014, to mark the anniversary of the first crackdown of protesters in the capital’s Maidan Nezalezhnosti, a monument to the fallen heroes of the Heaven’s Hundred was established in the center of Tyachiv. The event was attended by about four hundred people.

The ceremony began with a performance of the anthem of Ukraine and a moment of silence for the fallen soldiers of the Heaven’s Hundred and soldiers who have died in the Donbas. After speeches of the participants of the Revolution of Dignity and patrons, the monument was unveiled. The priests of the local Greek Catholic diocese, fathers of the Church of Kyiv Patriarchate and Reformation pastors consecrated the monument. The memorial was made at the expense of district patrons and local government.

In March 2014, the culture department of the Tyachiv district administration supported the idea of building a monument and announced a competition for the best design of the obelisk to the Heaven’s Hundred.  More than thirty projects was submitted to the commission by teachers and students of children’s art schools Svitlana Dyordyay and Yuriy Veyhesh, they compiled sketches elements in the model of the monument, and the sculptor of the monument was Andriy Ovrakh. The work on the pedestal is not yet complete, but activists assure that by spring it will have been ready.
