The laboratory control of samples of watermelons indicate that they are safe for humans, the site of the regional office of the State Health Care Service informed. However, melons are cause for concern. During the month-long laboratory control, 2 samples of melons, that were selected in the trade network, had nitrate levels exceeding the maximum level (90.0 mg / kg). Administrative sanctions were imposed on the sellers.
Doctors remind: do not buy melons that "wait" for a buyer on the ground and near the motorways. In such conditions, heavy metals (including lead), and various microorganisms, including pathogens, may penetrate in watermelons and melons through the cracks. Generally, any watermelon or melon before use should be thoroughly washed under running water. Do not buy pre-cut melons, unless they are cut in your presence. Exposed surface of sweet watermelon attracts flies that transmit various microbes, including pathogens of the Escherichia group (dysentery, etc.).
