In Transcarpathia, an assistant to a people’s feputy is accused of receiving a bribe

In Transcarpathian region, a deputy’s assistant was notified of being suspected of receiving a bribe, for which he promised to have law enforcement officers working on the case of embezzlement dismissed.

Officers of the Department of Economic Crimes of the National Police together with the regional prosecutor’s office in Transcarpathia notified an assistant to one of the people’s deputies that he is suspected of bribery.

This was reported to the Censor.NET by the speaker of the Department of Economics Natalia Kalinovska.

According to her, in the course of documenting the criminal activity of officials of one of the district state administrations and a private entrepreneur, who misappropriated two million hryvnias of budget funds by overestimating the prices for coal supplies to the educational institutions of the district, it was found out that the assistant to a people’s deputy had received from the said entrepreneur 150 thousand.

"In return for this money, the assistant of a people’s deputy promised to exert pressure and, by sending to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police, the GPU and the Cabinet of Ministers deputy appeals about the alleged illegal actions of law enforcement officers, to have officers of the Department of Economic Crimes and the investigator in the said criminal proceeding dismissed," – Kalinovska said.

She stressed that at present the assistant to a people’s deputy has been notified about being suspected of committing crimes under Part 5 of Art. 27 (types of accomplices) and Part 4 of Art. 368 (acceptance of a proposal, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official) of the Criminal Code. The businessman has been notified of being suspected under Part 4 of Art. 369 (proposal, promise or provision of unlawful benefit to an official) of the Criminal Code.

"Searches are being carried out in the office and private premises, as well as in the cars of the suspects. Passports of a citizen of Hungary and Ukraine and cash were seized from the assistant deputy. In particular, in amount 70 thousand dollars, as well as official documents. that prove illegal activities, were found in a safe. Possible involvement of one of the people’s deputies in the bribery is being established," – Natalia Kalinovska added.
