In Transcarpathia, activists showed a satellite footage of about 50 hectares of felled forest (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

In Transcarpathia, nature protectors filmed about 50 hectares of felled forest.

"Another 13 hectares was cut here in spite of the "period of silence". The investigation is under way," – the Facebook page of the WWF in Ukraine states.

The Fund informed that the footage was shot during an expedition to the Ust-Chorna forestry (Mokra forestry farm) together with representatives of the State Ecological Inspectorate and journalists.

It is also noted that wood harvesting tickets were issued for more than 20 plots, each of which is less than 1 ha. This caused suspicion about possible violations of the law "On Environmental Impact Assessment".

"When we finally managed to get there, we were struck by the scale of deforestration. Also, in spite of the "period of silence", between 7:00 to 12:00, unknown persons cut down about one hundred trees. Having selectively inspecting the stumps of freshly cut trees, we found that the percentage of sick trees could be significantly lower than that specified in the documents," – Dmytro Karabchuk, WWF Forest Guard Project Coordinator in Ukraine said.
