In the center of Prague, there are 1200 sights (PHOTOS)

Prague is one of the most beautiful historic cities in Europe and is in the top 5 most visited cities in Europe.

Eleven years ago, the historic city center with a unique panorama of Prague Castle and Hradcany was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

There are a lot of sights in Prague, they are on every corner, especially in the center – it is estimated that there are over 1,200 preserved cultural monuments and historic buildings there.

The city received the present name – Prague – only in 1920. By that time – since 1784 it had been called the "Royal Capital City Prague".

The origin of the name Prague is still the subject of debate. One of the most reasonable theories is based on the word "porog" (rift) referring to the rift of the Vltava River, which was at the point where the Charles Bridge is now, where people could wade the river.  Therefore Prague began to grow from that spot.

There are a lot of tourists there all year-round, especially from the former Soviet Union. In restaurants and shops, Russian language is used for communication along with Czech and English.
