On Wednesday, November 6, the Deputy Head of the region Mykhailo Popovich held a meeting on socio-economic and cultural development of districts. Deputy heads of district state administrations participated in the event.
At the meeting, they discussed issues related to the activity of the region. They analyzed the performance of districts in the last ten months, fulfillment of local budgets, draft Program of economic and social development of Transcarpathian region in 2014 and the main areas of development in 2015 and 2016.
Also they discussed strengthening of national harmony and understanding, meeting the cultural and educational needs of ethnic minorities living in Transcarpathia. Particular attention was paid to the relationship between more than 340 religious communities that are created by national minorities in the region.
– The region is home to more than 130 different nationalities, they peacefully live side by side. In this, Transcarpathia should be an example for other regions of our multinational country with diverse cultures and religions, – Mykhailo Popovich said.
To meet the cultural and educational needs, in the region there are 114 kindergartens and 95 schools in which students receive education in minority languages. Also, in Transcarpathia there are 5 private schools where school subjects are taught in Hungarian. In the region there are 66 national cultural societies: Hungarian, Roma, Slovak, Russian, Ruthenian, Romanian, German and of other ethnic communities.
