Hypertensives will be able to get prescription drugs for free (+ VIDEO)

The number of patients suffering from high blood pressure both in Ukraine and all over the world has increased for the last 10 years. Today in Ukraine there are at least 12 million hypertensive patients. Each year half a million of our fellow citizens die of this disease. This is primarily due to low physical activity, obesity, unhealthy food, smoking, stress and alcohol consumption. Our country is leading in the level of mortality caused by cardiovascular diseases among other countries.

Today, drug prices are regulated by the state in most European countries.

Drugs turnover is carried out after the registration of their prices and cannot exceed the ceiling price set by the Ministry of Healthcare based on the comparative (reference) prices for such medicines, established in Bulgaria, Moldova, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. If a drug is not represented on the market in these countries, the comparative (referent) price is established taking into account the prices in Latvia, Hungary and Serbia, and prices that have been established in Ukraine.

Already beginning on September 1, the state will compensate for the money spent on the patient’s medications, and in the future one will only need to obtain a prescription for drugs.

Seven formulas have been allocated, which all the major drugs for hypertension are synthesized of. All these drugs (200 items) were included in the list of drugs that reference prices are now established for. Subsequently, the system will work as follows: a doctor prescribes a hypertensive patient a drug from this list then he or she goes to the chemist’s with a prescription and receives prescription drugs for free. The state then compensates pharmacies for referential value of these drugs.
