The Government of Hungary has amended the 1994 XLV Act to support widows and orphans of former military personnel, the Mukachevo.net informs. Last year, an amendment was adopted that expanded the scope of the law and increased the range of those entitled to compensation or pension.
Now, Hungary intends to support the widows and children of Hungarian soldiers, gendarmes and servicemen who were seriously injured or killed during the Second World War. Not only citizens of Hungary have the right to receive compensation from the state, but also foreign Hungarians who have a corresponding certificate, including those living in Transcarpathia.
Applicants must prove that their immediate relatives (husbands, parents, brothers) served in the Royal Hungarian army or gendarmerie and were killed during the war – from November 1938 to May 1945.
You can apply for compensation at the Hungarian Consulates in Uzhgorod and Beregovo. To do this, you need to have a certificate of foreign Hungarian. Citizens of Hungary can visit the state office at their place of residence.
It will be a monthly pension in amount of 30% of the minimum pension in Hungary – 8,550 forints, or a one-time compensation of 50,000 to 250,000 forints.
Confirmatory documents are available at the Military Historical Archives and the Museum of the Institute of Military History in Budapest. Those can also be documents from the military hospital, any other documents. There is also an option to provide testimonies about a deceased soldier, that will be signed by a notary in the presence of two witnesses. The consulates send all available documents to Budapest, where the special commission makes a decision on accrual of pension or compensation.
The compensation will be transferred to the applicant’s or his/her guarantor’s bank account.
