High water: is Transcarpathia under a threat of flood?

The temperature in Transcarpathia, has remained above 0 degrees Celsius for several days now, so the thick snow cover has started melting. Experts comment on the situation with the threat of flood in Transcarpathia.

"There is always a threat of flooding. However, there have been no critical fluctuations in water levels in the rivers of the region. Since there is no precipitation, even the warming, which is expected according to weather forecasters, will not significantly affect the water level. The melting snow is not that bad. On the contrary, it’s good – it will replenish groundwater and wells," – Oleg Kysil, the head of the Tisa River Basin Water Resources Management Department, says

According to the Transcarpathian Regional Center for Hydrometeorology, slight increase in water levels, weakening and destruction of ice has been observed on the majority of the rivers. During the next day, cloudy weather, sometimes light, sometimes moderate precipitation, sleet, and rain is expected, gradual rise of water levels, weakening and destruction of ice will continue in most rivers.
