In Transcarpathia, volunteers help servicemen, defending our homeland in the East. And for the most part, they are journalists. Getting together in social communities, caring citizens organized a duty in the biggest supermarket of Uzhgorod – the "Dastor."
Halyna Yartseva, journalist, the organizer of the campaign, says: "I believe that journalists are the best volunteers, because people trust them the most. And journalists were first to come to work today, to collect food for our Transcarpathian servicemen. Each region wants to take care of their own – they are our brothers, fathers, husbands. And it should be done now – because if we wait for the state to conduct these tenders, our boys will die of hunger."
This is not the first campaign: Uzhgorod women have already collected food and warm clothes for border guards, who were reinforcing the eastern boder.
Victoria Plavayko, the organizer of the first collection of aid for soldiers and the mother of a border guard, said: "Yes, I’m happy, we then collected enough food for 6 units – 2 in Donetsk and 4 in Luhansk region. The boys were happy – they had food for some time. Now they are in the academy in Khmelnytsky and other boys went to replace them. I am glad that the campaign continues. Now we want to help our boys from Transcarpathia."
Victoria Szabo, a journalist and a volunteer, says: "Now, in these difficult moments, everyone thinks about how they can be helpful for the country, how they can help. And I think that a few hours spent for such a good cause is better than the same hours spent on social networks or resting at home."
Within just the first hour, during which visitors were asked to buy food for soldiers, they collected several carriages – cereals, canned food, sweets and lots of smiles and good wishes. The recipients are Transcarpathians soldiers who are now in troubled Ukrainian East. And on Wednesday the campaign will expand – patriotic carriages will appear in other supermarkets of Uzhgorod, and possibly beyond.
The collection is ongoing in the Dastor to 22.00, and will continue tomorrow in afternoon. Get involved!
