In Transcarpathian region, members of a criminal group robbed and then held captive a family of foreign tourists with young children.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the criminal group was detained in December 2019.
It turned out that the criminals attacked the family of foreign tourists, took from them 7 thousand dollars, documents, clothes and mobile phones. And then, to prevent the victims from reporting it to the police after the robbery, the criminals dragged them into the basement and held them captive against their will. There were two young children among the hostages.
One of the victims managed to escape and seek help from the police. At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that "at the time of his appeal, a special operation to detain the members of the criminal group was already being prepared."
The organizer of the criminal group was a deputy of one of the village councils.
He and two other members were notified of being suspected under Part 2 of Art. 187 (robbery) and Part 2 of Art. 146 (illegal imprisonment) of the Criminal Code.
Two offenders were taken into custody, another one was taken under house arrest. The pre-trial investigation was completed, and the indictments were sent to court.
The perpetrators face up to 10 years in prison.
