On May 20, 1942, in the village of Volove (now the town of Mizhhirya, Transcarpathia), Shevchenko Prize winner Petro Skunts was born.

In 1963, he graduated from the University of Uzhgorod. He worked for the regional youth newspaper. He was the editor of the Transcarpathian regional publishing house. The editor of the newspaper "Karpatska Ukraina". The Chairman of the Transcarpathian organization of the People’s Movement of Ukraine.
