Today, in Uzhgorod, on Narodna Square, there was the ceremony of raising the national flag of Ukraine and the flag of the EU on the occasion of the approval of the visa-free regime for Ukraine and the Day of Europe. The ceremony was attended by representatives of executive authorities and local self-government, winners of student competitions, European diplomats, representatives of culture and science, the media, residents and visitors of the city.
The honorable mission of raising the National Flag of Ukraine was performed by the ATO participant Lt. Andriy Akimov, the bearer of the state award "Defender of Ukraine." Then, to the sounds of the anthem of Europe’s "Ode to Joy", the flag of the European Union was raised by the head of the Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal, the chairman of the Regional Council Mykhailo Rivis, Uzhgorod Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv, the Ambassador of Croatia to Ukraine Tomislav Vidosevic, winners of the fourth stage of the natinal student competitions – students of Uzhgorod boarding school with advanced study of certain subjects Jessica Nimets and Adrian Lukach.
Speaking on the European Union’s decision to abolish visas for Ukrainians, Hennadiy Moskal said that it is a proof of Ukraine’s choice of European values.
– Ukrainians are returning to the common European cultural space, to European principles, which are based on human values - H. Moskal said. – Today, Ukraine, defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity, is also protecting the European civilization. We sincerely thank our European friends for their support for our people in these difficult times. We know that together we will stand and win!
