The Day of St. Martin – the patron of Mukachevo – was celebrated in the city on Latorica.
Mukachevo invited to the festive extravaganza for the fourth time. This holiday unites the city with Europe, because in November, similar events take place in many ancient cities.
Traditionally, this is also a holiday of winemakers, so they taste new wine there, and pour wine from the first barrel of the new harvest on a square. This time, on Myr Square, this ritual was performed by the newly elected mayor Andriy Baloha.
But the main part of the event is the procession with lanterns. They are made by children, and then the community choose the best ones. Another attribute of the holiday is fire. Traditionally fire theaters perform in Mukachevo, this time the Fire Life were showing their skills. The audience was also enterntained by the ancient music theater from Lviv Kings & Beggars.
By the way, every time, they show the reenactment of the legend of St. Martin – once a soldier, then a priest who is known for having shared bread and cloak with a beggar, who in fact was God in disguise.
Overall, the Feast of St. Martin has become an annual bright holiday for the community and tourists.
