In the midst of the election campaign in Uzhgorod, known in Transcarpathia political experts gathered to discuss the political processes and trends in the region, and in particular, in the constituency 68 (Uzhgorod and Uzhgorod district).
The head of the Transcarpathian Center for Political Studies Victor Pashchenko, Doctor of Economics Volodymyr Prykhodko, UzhNU Professor Serhiy Fedaka, the head of the Transcarpathian Regional Organization of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine Dmytro Tuzhansky and political scientist Mykhailo Shelemba met with journalists.
– Now they are trying to convince us that "new people" are running under the banners of the most popular political forces, but under a close inspection, this "newness" is actually not that new at all.
Dmytro Tuzhansky said that people are expecting concrete plans, concrete programs and realistic promises.
– There are a lot of candidates in the lists, but the quality of the candidates is questionable. "New Faces" is, of course, a catchy slogan, but we are electing future lawmakers. What do they know about the functioning of the state? I do not see answers to this question.
Among the main challenges of this year’s elections, D. Tuzhansky singled out expected use of direct voter bribing, the signs of which are already noticeable, as well as the passivity of the electorate.
– The electorate is exhausted by the previous presidential election campaign, so I foresee an extremely low turnout, – the expert said.
Professor Serhiy Fedaka also agreed with him.
– Yes, the turnout will be low, and it will significantly affect the results. Also, I do not believe that any new people will get to the parliament. I think that people with parliamentary experience will win in each of the 6 Transcarpathian constituencies, and this is not a problem, because the dilettantism of the new politicians is overwhelming.
In his turn, Mykhailo Shelemba said that the negative impact of the previous campaign on the main trends of the next one was noticeable.
– Political technologists are trying to carry over the hatred-based hype from the presidential to parliamentary elections. They make every campaign like a spectacular show so that the voters do not think over the content.
