Experts of the EU programs will take part in drafting the tourism development strategy in Transcarpathia

Today, the Regional Council Chairman Volodymyr Chubirko and his deputy Mykhailo Popovich, the Head of the RSA Vasyl Hubal met with experts from the EU Programme "Support to Regional Development Policy in Ukraine" Anna Ososinska and Natalia Lukashenko. The head of the "Regional Development and Cross-Border Co-operation Agency "Transcarpathia" of the Transcarpathian Regional Council" Valeriy Hryshchenko also took part in the event.

Last year, Transcarpathian Regional Council won the European grant totaling more than 890 thousand euros for the project "Support to the economy of Transcarpathian region through the development and promotion of its tourism potential." The co-financing from the EU funds amounts to 712,000 euros.  The period of the project implementation is up to July 2016. The predicted results are expanding network of tourism infrastructure in the region, ordering and arrangment of the tourist route network in Transcarpathian region, raising the visitors’ awareness about the region’s tourism potential through online resources, increasing the number of large-scale tourism promotional activities, creation of a theoretical framework of the region’s infrastructure. Representatives of the EU Programme "Support to Regional Development Policy in Ukraine" are currently assessing the implementation of this project in the region.

Anna Ososinska said that tourism to such a region as Transcarpathia can become the basis for economic development. Therefore, she offered expert help in drafting the tourism industry development strategy in Transcarpathia.    

Volodymyr Chubirko noted that there is a plan to establish a tourismcenter and the project focuses on building camping villages. 

Vasyl Hubal added that they plan to create the Department of Tourism at the regional administration to coordinate the activities.
