Kiwifruit harvest is ripening in Transcarpathia. Uzhgorod breeder Henrich Straton has been working with this exotic plant for about 20 years. It all started many years ago when he and his father planted several thousand seedlings of exotic plants, leaving them without much care on open ground. The task was to get at least one plant that could withstand the local climatic conditions. And they were lucky! With that plant, which proved to be the most enduring, the selection work for breeding his own variety of kiwi began.
Henrich Straton says that even in the mountains, his plants consistently withstand winter and bear fruit. He is glad that in our land, there are neither natural pests nor diseases for kiwi, and, accordingly, it requires minimal care. As for productivity, Henrich Straton says that one hectare can bring up to 25 tons of fruit. And last year, Henrich Straton founded the first kiwi plantation in Ukraine
