Elton John and Queen played at Nezaleznosti (Independence) Square in Kiev at a charity concert as a part of Elena Pinchuk’s "Anti-AIDS" campaign. Queen, Paul McCartney and Elton John had already visited Ukraine before at the invitation of Elena Pinchuk.
The musicians encouraged everybody not to remain indifferent and expressed support for the fight against HIV and AIDS in Ukraine.
Besides Elton John asked Ukrainians to stop discrimination against sexual minorities and to prevent the adoption of the bill № 8711 "On amendments to some legislative acts on protection of the rights of children to secure information space" (relatively the prohibition of advocacy of homosexuality).
The concert of the musicians at Independence Square started at 8:00 p.m., lasted about five hours, and collected about 100,000 spectators.
