Yesterday, on April 11, on the occasion of the International Earth Day, the Information and Resource Center "Window to America" of the Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library and the NGO "Ecosphere" planted trees in the territory of the "Kirpichka" lake.
On April 22, the world celebrates the International Earth Day to attract people’s attention to their home and encourage them to take care of it. The NGO "Ecosphere" and members of the center "Window to America" decided to do something for our hometown. Seedlings were provided by the Biology Faculty of UzhNU from the botanical garden. And the place was chosen in the area of the "Kirpichka" lake, Lyubov Tolstova, the coordinator of the center "Window to America" said.
"The Kirpichka is a park that is needed in the city. The public has repeatedly argued about this. Many people spend their free time here. This is a great place to relax. But it is still not streamlined. The park is still important as a location that contributes to adaptation to climate change. In summer, the lake and vegetation of the park help to reduce the air temperature in the area. Therefore, it is important to plant trees in this park", – Katerina Stankevich-Koval, the executive director of the NGO "Ecosphere" explained the choice of place.
In 11 hours, 11 maples, 6 ginkgo trees and 10 fruit trees were planted. A regular visitor to the center, Mark Melnichenko, brought his own fruit trees for planting.
