According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, as of the end of 2012, Ukraine’s population was 45,553,000 people, that is 80,600 people less than a year ago. Overall, last year in Ukraine 520,700 people were born, 663,100 people died. Thus, the natural decline in population was 142,400 people.
The decline occured at the expense of the rural population, states the "Korespondent." The maximum population growth rate was recorded in Rivne and Transcarpathian regions.
While the trend of disappearance of Ukrainian villages became alarming in most parts of the country, Transcarpathia is not threatened. Particularly stable population is in Romanian villages. Despite the traditional Romanian "work migration", all workers return to their homeland to create families and build housing.
At least the demographic statistics suggests that neither aging nor disappearance threatens to Romanian settlements in Transcarpathia.
