Today, the book exhibition "Book-Fest 2016" started in Uzhgorod. During the round table on problems of book publishing, publishers, writers, journalists, academics, government officials talked about quality literature and about the problems of reading, as well as barriers between readers and authors. The information was spread on her page on social networks by Transcarpathian writer Lydia Khodanych-Povkh.
"At first glance, nothing new: lack of adequate state support, insufficient advertising of books, few translations… Cultural figures of the eastern Slovakia were talking about the disappearance of Ukrainian culture in Slovakia, out of more than 200 Ukrainian schools only 3 remain! Petro Sokol, the chairman of the Society of Ukrainians-Ruthenians of Eastern Slovakia emphasized the need to develop a common assessment of cultural and historical events: the books, sent to Eastern Slovakia from Ukraine, present conflicting views and different, sometimes opposite, assessments of known events and figures.
So, in the end, it came down to: the predominance of the material over the spiritual as a global factor of modern civilization, inadequate state support of writers and decline of culture in the society programmed for survival," – the writer states with regret.
Recall that the official opening of the exhibition "BOOK-FEST 2016" will be held tomorrow, May 26, at 10.00, in the Uzhgorod gallery.
