Holiday of the historical reenactment Day of the Drugets took place in Uzhgorod for the second time.
Last year, the flash mob was the announcement of the holiday, which was planned for now, because the 700th anniversary of the coming of the noble dynasty to Transcarpathia is celebrated in 2018.
The capture of the Uzhgorod castle and the lands around it by the Drugets changed the life of both gentry and peasants, and certainly the status of the fortress itself. The fortress began to turn into a palace, and the Drugets left their footprint in the history of the city and the region, bringing European cultural heritage here.
On this occasion, the Historical Reenactment Club "Order of Saint Nicholas" and their friends organized a holiday that took place in the skansen near the castle and partly in the city. A costume procession of the "Knights of the Drugets" and the "local peasants" marched on the street drawing attention of not only tourists but also townspeople.
The holiday began with the opening of a medieval town in the Uzhgorod castle, where amateur and professional knight fights took place. The highlight of the event was the "siege of the castle", during which the "peasants" were defending the castle from the "noblemen", but were eventually defeated. There were swords and arrows, knightly valor and courage, and even a cannon…
During the holiday, another significant ceremony took place, which was held by the Master of the Order of Saint Nicholas Yosyp Bartosh, the tenant of the Saint Miklos castle in Chynadiyevo. As you know, the artist turned the abandoned building into a magnificent art center with interesting events. Today, in Uzhgorod, he was "distributing castles". Namely, he appointed captains for three iconic monuments of Transcarpathia. The captains commit themselves to take care of the preservation and popularization of "their" castles. Nevytsky Castle was assigned to Yury Slavik, Serednye castle to – Oleksandr Shershun, and professor Fedir Shandor will be responsible for the castle in Bronka (Irshava district). The men promised to take care of the historical monuments, so we are waiting for news…
