Customs officers are taught behavior ethics

The Deputy Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Administration Volodymyr Prykhodko, the Head of Chop Customs Office Olexandr Pokhylko and the Public Council at Chop Customs Office Myroslava Kalamuniak participated in the press conference which was held in the press center of ‘Zakarpatska Pravda’ newspaper today, May 8. The meeting concerned the Customs Office readiness and the region in general to the European Football Championship.

As Olexandr Pokhylko told, the border crossing points of Chop customs office is almost ready to meet the football fans. The reconstruction of ‘Tysa’ checkpoint is already finished, in order not to feel ashamed in front of foreign guests the gardening was held there. The situation with the checkpoint ‘Uzhgorod’ and ‘Luzhanka’ is worth: they did not have time to carry out the reconstruction that is why they will maximum make it to order and serious repairs make maybe for the next year.

The customs officers work procedure for the period of Euro-2012 is already worked out. Thus, each shift will consist of four workers who speak foreign languages fluently and they will stay at the entrance and departure from the country. They will not conduct a review, but work as interpreters and consultants and will be ready to respond to any visitor’s question on where they can stay for night, have a rest, get medical help and others. There are 140 customs officers with knowledge of foreign languages at the ‘Tysa checkpoint’, 78 at ‘Uzhgorod checkpoint’ and 23 at ‘Luzhantsi’.

Behavior ethics has also become an obligatory condition of customs officers work. Olexandr Pokhylko told that he often drives at the checkpoint ‘Tysa’ before the work asks drivers that had just crossed the border and if they any complains. He says: I have never heard any complaint that is why I am sure that tourists will enjoy the customs service.

The Head of Chop customs office was not able to say exactly how many football fans will cross borders in Transcarpathia, but he noted that the customs staff is prepared to the highest numbers.

Volodymyr Prikhodko also pointed out the seriousness of Chop Customs Office approach to the preparation work during Euro-2012. He explained that recently inspected the infrastructure from the border with Hungary and along the ‘Kyiv-Chop’ highway on the territory of our region. The general impressions of the inspection were positive the only gap was the linguistic and psychological one. In other words, people who will work with tourists almost do not know foreign languages, moreover the roadside hotels, petrol stations, cafes do not want to join the festive atmosphere: to decorate their institutions with ‘Euro-2012’ brand names.
