COVID-19 rapid tests at pharmacies and screening for patients with pneumonia – the Ministry of Health informed about innovation

On April 10, the Ministry of Health reported that pharmacies can sell rapid tests for COVID-19, and that all patients with pneumonia would now be tested for coronavirus. Regional state administrations are either mostly not registering the incidence of the disease or do not have a unified approach to collecting data on pneumonia cases, including lethal ones, and testing of patients with pneumonia for coronavirus started a few days ago.

"As of today, we are testing all patients with pneumonia who are in infectious diseases hospitals as well as other hospitals, but diagnosed with pneumonia," – the Chief State Sanitary Doctor and the Deputy Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko said at a briefing.

Also, Lyashko said at a briefing that pharmacies can sell rapid coronavirus tests.

"Pharmacies can buy rapid test systems. Private laboratories can buy test systems if they meet the requirements of biological safety and are authorized to work with class 2 pathogens," – Lyashko said.

At the same time, he reminded that all test results should be reported to the Public Health Center, and the polymerase chain reaction method is used for the final confirmation of coronavirus.
