International co-operation in criminal proceedings, including the investigation of illegally gained assets taken abroad. This was the theme of the seminar held yesterday at the Main Office of the Ministry of Income in Transcarpathian region chaired by the Acting Deputy Chief – the Chief of the Financial Investigation Department Mykhailo Shukost. This event was held for the first time and was attended by the management of the prosecution, the specialists of the tax police, customs office, border guards, MIA, lawyers.
The seminar, focused on international cooperation, contained a great variety of issues.
In particular, the lawyers told the audience about international laws and outlined their pragmatic issues. According to experts, the temporary occupation of the Crimea and the events taking place in the east of Ukraine, brought international law to a new level. In addition, experts conducted a brief excursion into international jurisprudence, on the examples of other countries. Audiences were given examples of how international courts resolve disputes, including those related to property rights. Scholars noted that international legal cooperation is becoming more interconnected.
Overall, the speakers touched upon issues related to the mechanisms of international jurisdiction as a means to protect the national interests of Ukraine. They discussed the interaction with customs authorities of foreign countries in the framework of administrative mutual assistance in customs clearance of goods, crossing the state border of Ukraine. Another issue, that was covered, was the use of opportunities of the Ukrainian Bureau of Interpol during pre-trial investigation of criminal offenses, solving crimes in the course of operational activities. The issue of dual citizenship, residence permits of foreigners in Ukraine was also relevant for Transcarpathia.
The participants concluded that by bringing together leading experts of law enforcement agencies and employees of income and taxes authorities to discuss the effective and timely exchange of relevant information between agencies, as well as its use, they can reach a new and more effective level of cooperation and contribute to the protection of economic and legal interests of the state
