In the Transcarpathian PI №9 (remand prison), there are prisoners who are fond of embroidery. The embroidery is charming, fascinating and sometimes surprising.
Especially, when it is made skillfully by… men. The cross-stitch is unique because there are no knots on the reverse side, the press service of the department of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region informed. And they have never been taught the art of embroidery.
Among the exhibits, there is the technique of cross-stitching, satin stitching, and beads. Subjects are various, but mostly religious. One of the prisoners Volodymyr admitted that since childhood he had liked to watch his mother’s hands deftly handling needle and thread and making beautiful patterns on canvas.
"Observation and simple technique of ordinary cross-stitching became the first basics of my hobby," – the prisoner said. At the beginning, he did ordinary embroidery. He liked then red and black motifs. Over time, Volodymyr developed his own technique of embroidery, which no one has taught him.
