An interesting global initiative was implemented in Uzhgorod. Now the regional center has a "library" where readers themselves manage the process. It is a book-crossing point Street-book.
It is an original structure similar to a phone booth in London, stylized like book shelves, and the roof is in the form of an open book.
Street-book appeared on Svoboda Avenue, against the wall of the Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library. Today, September 29, it celebrates its 70th anniversary.
The celebration and opening of the book exchange point took place with the participation of the library staff, government officials and intellectuals of Transcarpathia.
The implementation of the project was initiated and promoted by Volodymyr Chubirko, the Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council and the candidate for the mayor of Uzhgorod.
According to Volodymyr Chubirko, he saw similar "library" abroad and decided that Uzhgorod also deserves to have a Street-book, because it is not only cultural, but also a social initiative. "And with such projects, our city is getting closer and closer to Europe", – he said.
The first books for book-crossing were collected by libraries, Transcarpathian authors and Volodymyr Chubirko.
The book-crossing will be managed by readers themselves. In Europe, it is a common tradition: a reader takes a book, leaving another one instead.
Today, Street-book will also be opened on Voloshin street, near the children’s library.
