The implementation of the joint project of the UNDP and the Global Environment Facility "Development and commercialization of bioenergy technologies market in the municipal sector Ukraine" in Transcarpathia was discussed during the meeting by the Deputy Governor Mykhailo Rivis and experts of the project.
The project envisages municipal heat and hot water supply by the use of agricultural biomass. "Today, our country is one of the most energy-inefficient countries. And this applies not only to industry, but also to utilities. At the same time, the country has huge biomass resources, and there are technologies that can use such a resource for heating and hot water supply" – the project leader Volodymyr Lyaschenko said.
So experts have proposed to develop a regional program for the development of bioenergy technologies for heating and hot water supply in the municipal sector.
"The development and the implementation of this regional program is very important for Transcarpathia – Mykhailo Rivis said. – We abandoned district heating. The program of energy efficiency and conservation is being implemented in our region, modernization and replacement of boiler rooms in public sector and municipal power system using local fuels continues. Heat production from biomass is successfully developing in the EU, Transcarpathia has all the prerequisites to become a leader in this field."
At the meeting, they decided that in the framework of the regional program for the development of bioenergy technologies, the team of specialists of our region would gather information on the current status of free land that is not used for cultivation of crops and which can be used to cultivate energy plants. Also, they will review the situation with the housing objects which can work on biomass. The UNDP project will assist in the implementation of already developed and approved regional program by attracting financial donors and investors.
