Avalanche hazard of the third level remains in the mountains of Transcarpathia

Avalanche hazard in the Carpathians! According to the forecasts of the Transcarpathian Hydrometeorological Center on January 16-17, due to snowfall and snowstorms, a significant avalanche hazard (III level) will remain in the highlands of Transcarpathian region.

It is particularly dangerous in the area of the Mount Drahobrat, Urda valley and the Mount Blyznytsya, rescuers of the Rakhiv mountain search and rescue group, who conducted a survey of this territory, informed. In view of this, the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region advices citizens to refrain from trips to the mountains, as in case of avalanches such trips can end tragically.

Rescuers also urge the owners of cable cars to suspend their operation in bad weather conditions (strong wind and fog) so that tourists are not tempted to go to the mountains and expose themselves to danger.

If after all you decided to go conquering the slopes of the Carpathians, strictly follow basic safety rules. First of all, get registered at the nearest rescue service unit, prepare for the trip taking warm clothes and climbing equipment, alsways be accompanied by experienced tourists and stop the trip in adverse weather conditions.
