At Zahony customs office, they are combating corruption not in words but in deeds (PHOTOS)

At Zahony customs office, employees were arrested for bribery at the workplace. Thus Hungarians, unlike Transcarpathians, are actually combating corruption.

On July 30, the chief investigator of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Hungary Rolland Valtner reported that 21 suspects – 18 customs tax officers and three civilians – had been detained for bribery and malicious abuse of authority and other crimes.

Most of them are suspected of facilitating smuggling across the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, the Mukachevo.net informs citing Hungarian media and official publications of state bodies of power in Hungary. Overall, investigators of the regional offices in Debrecen have conducted 25 raids lately.

In particular, during the investigation at the checkpoint "Záhony-Chop", they detained several customs officers who had been knowingly assisting smugglers by failing to report about hidden cigarettes of Ukrainian origin in the cars crossing the border.

"The tax Inspectorate of the NAV is working closely with the investigating authorities, in accordance with the administrative regulations – and we intend to check not only tax officers," – Rolland Valtner said.
