On the Day of Architecture, July 1, Uzhgorod will host the first block of a series of online lectures in the open air. Its theme is logical – interesting architectural moments in the research of Uzhgorod and Transcarpathia.
Vynnychna st., 13 is the home address of the initiator of the project, architect Petro Sarvash. He said that in 4 months of quarantine he had enough time to clean up the garden and reflect on the fact that, unfortunately, most of the interesting architectural conversations and often discoveries take place quite behind the scenes and usually far outside Uzhgorod. There have been no such meetings this year at all. That’s why Mr. Petro decided to make a public space in… his garden.
Today the lecturers will be archaeologist Volodymyr Moyzhes, who will tell about interesting discoveries found during the excavations of St. George’s Church on the territory of Uzhgorod Castle ("Archaeological research of the castle church in Uzhgorod"), Lina Degtyareva with a story about the features of Czech modernism in Uzhgorod, and Petro Sarvash himself will tell about the ruins of Muzhiyevo and Radvanka churches.
You will be able to listen to the lectures online, on the project’s Facebook page. The sream starts at 19.00.
There will be few such lectures, Petro Sarvash says, about once every two months, and they will concern not only architecture and archeology. For now, the current project will be a trial and will show the organizers, including the Uzhgorod Modernism Association, whether it is worth moving in this direction and whether Uzhgorod residents are interested in such events at all.
