Last night, as part of joint actions by employees of the State Border Guard Service and the State Fiscal Service, a truck "Volvo" was detained trying to carry a large shipment of contraband cigarettes across the state border.
Heading to Slovakia through the checkpoint "Uzhgorod", the driver presented the documents for the cargo, which included over 170 wooden coils for cables. During the inspection, employees of the checkpoint found among the cargo cigarettes "Winston" with Ukrainian excise stamps, which were wrapped in plastic packages and hidden inside the coils.
Border guards reported the discovery of the cigarettes to officers of the Security Service for further investigation. Currently the count of detected smuggled cigarettes continues, but according to preliminary data, their amount is more than 60,000 packs.
Operational units of the Western Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and other authorities are conducting further investigating measures to identify and establish possible places of accumulation of counterfeit products and persons involved in this offense.
