An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.3 points was recorded today around 6:00 am
Another earthquake with a magnitude of 2.3 points and the epicenter eight kilometers north of Michalovce was recorded by seismologists on Thursday at 5.59 in the morning.
According to representatives of the seismology department of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS), in eastern Slovakia, in the vicinity of Vihorlat (Eastern Carpathians), seismologists record earthquakes every year.
However, the earthquake that occurred on Friday, April 24, also in the vicinity of Michalovce, became "the strongest earthquake in the Vihorlat area in the last 17 years," – the SAS reported.
"This mountainous area and the surroundings of Humenne, Michalovce and Vranov nad Toplou are seismically active areas of Slovakia," – seismologists say, noting that the strongest earthquake in the area was recorded on June 5, 1941.
Seismologists record approximately 80 earthquakes with epicenter in Slovakia every year.
"The vast majority of them are so weak that only very sensitive devices can detect them," – Slovak scientist Christian Cicai said.
