Aniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan was celebrated in Uzhgorod (PHOTOS)

Today in Uzhgorod, on Pravoslavna embankment near the monument "Grieving Mother", there were celebrations on the occasion of the commemoration of the participants in wars on the territory of other states and the 29th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.

This was reported by Uzhgorod city council.

Representatives of the clergy held a prayer service and consecrated the memorial plate and the monument, people commemorated the victims of wars in different countries with a minute of silence.

Representatives of the regional and city authorities in their speeches noted that it has been 29 years since the bloody war in Afghanistan, which took lives of more than 3 thousand of our compatriots. The same amount of people became disabled, and more than hundreds of thousands at very young age became veterans. One in four servicemen, who participated in the military and political special operation of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, is a Ukrainian.

The leaders of Transcarpathia, Uzhgorod, law enforcement and security agencies, diplomats, put flowers to the monument "Grieving Mother", soldiers saluted with gunshots.
