Andriy Khir and folklore in the “I Gallery” (PHOTOS)

In the known Kyiv "I Gallery" art center (at Khoryv street, 49 B), the third personal art project "Superstition" by an Uzhgorod resident Andriy Khir will last until February 9. There, he continues to explore the foundations of Ukrainian folklore, namely – text phrases selected from ethnographic works of renowned folklorists of the early XX century – V. Hnatiuk, A. Onishchuk and V. Shukhevich. 

 As the author noted on the page of the gallery: "I decided to stay within the Ukrainian Carpathians region because it is close and dear to me. I somewhat shortened and adapted text phrases selected from ethnographic works, rejecting unnecessary to focus on a clear and pithy plot. The aim of the project is to reproduce the outlook of Ukrainians in the Carpathians through interpretation of stories and images on the basis of the material recorded in the early twentieth century by the aforementioned authors. The logic of stories described in these works is often different from the realistic and rational one. Although researchers often try to interpret certain myths and beliefs from the standpoint of common sense. However, these stories and beliefs have no clear boundary between real and unreal, between the world of men and the world of spirits."
