On January 29, online media reported that unidentified persons, allegedly collectors of one of the commercial banks, were illegally evicting a single retiree from her apartment.
According to the communication department of the Transcarpathian regional police, on Secheni Street in Uzhgorod, there was a conflict between representatives of one of the banks and a pensioner who owns an apartment which was pledged to the bank. The police have started investigating the matter.
“The investigative team of the city police arrived at the scene, namely a high-rise building on Secheni Street in Uzhgorod. It was found out that the apartment is a mortgage for an outstanding bank loan. Representatives of the bank presented to the 80-year-old woman the court decision forbidding to dispose of the property owned by the bank,” – the statement reads.
A court hearing will be held in February to consider the forced eviction of the debtor from the apartment.
Law enforcement officers found out that a few years ago, the pensioner’s son took a loan from the bank, pledging his and his mother’s common apartment. The borrower has not repaid the loan. It is known that the man died. As the loan has not been repaid, the bank seized the pledged property – the apartment.
“At present, the pensioner continues to live there, and she reported that unknown persons had entered her apartment yesterday and unauthorizedly changed the locks on the front door.
Law enforcement officers opened an investigation into the matter. Preliminary legal classification is Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Unsanctioned action)”, – law enforcement officers inform.
Police also received allegations from both sides of the conflict – from bank representatives and the pensioner’s advocates that they had been beaten. This information is also being verified and, if confirmed, will be given an appropriate legal assessment.
