An environmental campaign M.A.D. cleaner challenge (where M.A.D. stands for Make a difference) is launched in Transcarpathia. Its inspirer is Ivan Revtiy, the head of the regional branch of the Association of Cities of Ukraine, a former mayor of Svalyava.
He filmed littered banks of the Vycha river before and after cleaning and invited friends (particularly, known in the region tourist expert Fedir Shandor) to support the initiative and spread this challenge modeled after the already world famous ice bucket challenge.
"I’ve got enough of it!!! I bought bags, gloves, took a saw, a hatchet, went to the Vycha river. I chose the area, where vacationers do not go (it is hard to get). Started cleaning. I planned to clean 200 m. After the first 10, I realized that one person can not do it alone during daylight hours. I decided that I would clean as much as I can. The result: 70 meters of a clean bank, 8 bags of garbage," – Ivan Revtiy wrote on his page in facebook.
He adds: "Recently, the ice bucket challenge campaign took place with great fanfare. I think it will be good to launch a campaign M.A.D. cleaner challenge (where M.A.D. is Make a difference, although without dots it’s great too). In this video, (you can see it HERE) I invite my friends to support me, accepting a challenge. Find a place with garbage (and it is almost everywhere), take pictures, then clean it and then photograph it again. Challenge at least two friends (like-minded) and maybe even enemies to do the same. I think in a month we will make our region cleaner. The work is not easy. But if not us, who else!?" – the man sums up.
A special community was set up in social networks, so that everyone could join the new environmental M.A.D. cleaner challenge in Transcarpathia.
