Members of Uzhgorod City Council did not support the decision of the executive committee to issue permits for the placement of advertising media for a period of only one year.
The issue was initiated by Victor Shchadey, attributing it to the excess of advertising and the desire of Uzhgorod residents to take away advertising media from the city center or at least to reduce their amount.
Instead, some deputies, including Yuriy Belyakov, claimed that it was a violation of the law as businessmen are eligible for permits for a period of 5 years.
Previously, advertisers arranged a press conference, where they protested against this decision of the municipality and promised to go to court – the Pro Zakhid wrote.
The publication Zakarpattya online reports that at the meetings of the Executive Committee, all advertisers’ requests to prolong the "expired" permits for outdoor advertising were not granted: the Executive Committee would repeatedly prolong permits only for 1 instead of 5 years as requested by the entrepreneurs.
After the discussion of this issue, deputies upheld the draft decision on cancellation of the Executive Committee decision by 32 votes. So now advertisers have received an opportunity to legalize outdoor advertising media, including those in the historical center of Uzhgorod, for another 5 years.
