Previously, this road sign was standing at the turn to Zankovetska street, showing guests of the city the direction towards Mukachevo and Chop. But since April it has been looking like this:
The sign was just pulled out of the ground, and put leaning against the trunk of a tree on Cyril and Methodius square. Who found it disturbing? Let’s find out.
In early April, some works were held on the avenue. "Zakarpatgaz" eliminated a gas leak. Probably the sign was on the way of the equipment? Absolutely not. This is evidenced by photos taken during and immediately after the excavation.
But the very next day after the works, the sign disappeared. A huge billboard grew on its place, which is very much alike with the one that for a long time "decorated" Petefi Square, and earned the ironic nickname from citizens "Cheburashka" – for looking clumsy and for having big "ears"-boards.
One of our readers saw the installation of this "engineering wonder" on April 6.
For some reason, late at night at about 1 a.m., in a complete darkness some workmen quickly set the "advertising monster", which, by the way, is owned by advertising agency «VAR».
The photo shows: there is no pointer any more. A mobile crane is standing on its place. Thus, "under the guise of" official work of "Zakarpatgaz", the advertisers just pulled out the pointer and threw it away.
According to the media, before Euro 2012 road signs started being installed throughout Ukraine.
And only Uzhgorod in this sense distinguished itself by destruction instead of creation. Since April, no representatives of city authorities have thought how such a manifestation of "improvement" looks like in the eyes of visitors of the city. Although it is almost certain that at least once a day, someone from the Department of Urban Development, deputy mayor or the mayor himself passes the avenue.
The reason for advertisers’ arrogance and "the election blindness" of the city authorities is clear: on the eve of the elections every inch of advertising space in Uzhgorod, cluttered with outdoor advertising, is almost worth its weight in gold. So the adequate management of urban infrastructure is out of topic – there are more important things…
